Coronavirus: Oman says it suspects 4 cases of new mutated COVID-19

Coronavirus Situation In Oman: 

Dubai: Oman’s Ministry of Health announced that it suspected four cases of the new mutated strain of COVID-19 coming from the UK, Oman’s News Agency reported.

The suspected cases are under study to determine if they are the new variant virus, Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi, Health Minister said.

“The ongoing study will examine the suspected cases of four people coming from the UK. We are studying the genetic map and the results will be announced later,” the Minister said.

He said, however, there are no indications so far that the new mutant COVID-19 variant is more dangerous than COVID-19 virus.

Al Saidi, who is also member of the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling COVID-19, the decisions to close land and sea borders and suspend flights for one week are based on the developments on the epidemiological situation of the virus.

“The decisions will be evaluated according the developments and we will continue following-up and monitoring the situation,” the Minister said.
