On 14 July, in the final match played at the historic Lord’s ground, New Zealand scored 241 runs while batting first. England needed 242 runs to become World Champion, but the hosting team also managed to score 241 runs in 50 overs and the match was tied.
To get the result of this tie match, a super over was made, in which England scored 15 runs and later New Zealand was also able to score 15 runs. So the match was also tied here. The result of the match came out on the basis of which team got more boundary in the match.
England had put a total of 26 boundaries during their innings in the entire match, while New Zealand had 17 boundaries in its account. The boundary imposed in the super over was also counted. England were declared winners on this basis, but the ICC has now repealed the boundary count rule.
