Officials termed the comments as “harming public interest and hate speech”. According to a statement by the state-run WAM news agency, these comments were broadcast before the match. The WAM report said that the channel’s ‘feed (broadcast)’ was hacked and the published clip was confiscated. It was also broadcast on some social media sites.

A detained journalist could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $1,360 (about one lakh rupees). WAM said that the Abu Dhabi Sports Channel has fired three people associated with the broadcast of the incident.
