On 6 November 2026, Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badar bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Iran’s Foreign Minister Dr. Sayyid Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation to examine options for restoring uninterrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
The two officials reviewed prior diplomatic steps and assessed progress in their negotiations, stressing that the corridor’s safety is essential for global energy trade and regional commerce. Both parties highlighted the need for practical and technical frameworks that would safeguard the waterway and keep international trade flowing without interruption.
They also noted that a lasting peace arrangement is required beyond merely easing current tensions.
Securing the strait, according to the ministers, would help halt any escalation into open conflict and create conditions for renewed diplomatic engagement on unresolved issues. The discussion underscored the importance of establishing mechanisms that ensure the continuity of oil and gas supplies while preventing future flashpoints.
