Writer Sheela Paul delivered a speech at the Sharjah International Book Fair, taking part in the Gandhi Smruthi lecture series hosted by the Mahatma Gandhi Cultural Forum (MGCF). She linked the current climate of wars and intolerance to a need for Gandhi’s ideals of truth, non‑violence and tolerance.
Paul argued that lasting peace can only be built on ideas rooted in truth and non‑violence, rather than on power or weapons. She emphasized that fostering love, tolerance and mutual respect among people aligns with Gandhian thought.
She added that passing Gandhi’s life lessons to younger generations is an urgent requirement of the times.
The MGCF team coordinated the event, which aims to keep Gandhi’s message relevant amid worldwide conflict.
