Residents celebrate 'unforgettable' Eid Al Fitr in UAE

In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, everyone requested to #StayHome this Eid Al Fitr, the day began with empty markets and streets.

For UAE residents, it was an Eid without social gatherings and gift exchanges for the first time ever. In order to protect themselves from the deadly coronavirus, there was no sight of crowds coming together at mosques, on streets or markets. No hugging and shaking hands were seen.

The vibe was a bit different, but we have to say that the spirit was definitely alive.

The vibe was different this time, but the spirit was definitely alive and same. People prayed in unison from their homes. Their phones were filled with heartfelt greetings from loved ones. The Dubai Mall is usually a favourite shopping destination for the families. But this year, the mall wasn’t as busy as in previous years, the spirit was high as everyone could be seen enjoying an outing with family while following the social distancing rules.

Many families celebrated differently this time through video calls.

Asghar Ali, a Dubai resident, is a bachelor living in Abu Hail with some of his roommates said that he used the Zoom app to talk to his family in Pakistan.

Apart from usual evening walks that people enjoyed, there was not much activity observed on the streets even after sunset – a time when people usually head out for Eid gatherings and go for long drives. Everyone is determined to fight the global pandemic.
