This is done by using smart technology to monitor the fall of rocks on the road, for the first time at Aqabat Al-Hada in Taif Governorate.
According to a statement issued by “Roads Authority“ A system has been implemented to monitor rockfall on the road in Aqabat Al-Hada in Taif Governorate, using 6 cameras enhanced with artificial intelligence, which monitor the first moments of rockfall from the mountainous areas surrounding the road, and send direct signals to close the road when any movement of rocks is detected, as a gate can be closed. Entering the obstacle 60 seconds after detecting any rockfall. The Authority confirms that the new system can be linked with the relevant authorities to notify them as soon as falling rocks are detected.

The Authority also indicated its intention to expand the use of the latest technologies and equipment in the road sector, with the aim of raising the level of safety, quality and traffic density, achieving its strategy of improving the quality of roads in the Kingdom to a sixth international level, and reducing the number of deaths to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people by 2030. .
In its statement, the Authority also confirmed that this smart system can be linked with the relevant authorities to notify them immediately upon the occurrence of any incident of falling rocks, enabling them to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of passersby and travelers.
In an announcement made by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the General Authority for Roads stressed the importance of this smart technology in supporting efforts made to ensure the safety of travelers and pedestrians on the roads, especially in mountainous areas that were previously exposed to rock-fall accidents.
