The Human Resources Authority in Sharjah has released the updated working schedule for government entities in anticipation of the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan. The official announcement delineates the designated working hours applicable to government departments, institutions, and related bodies within the emirate.
In alignment with the anticipated commencement of Ramadan, as per the Hijri calendar published by the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD), scheduled to potentially commence on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the government of Sharjah has enacted specific adjustments to accommodate this sacred period.
During Ramadan, government sector employees are mandated to adhere to revised working hours, spanning from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This adjusted timetable is uniformly applicable to all personnel, irrespective of fasting obligations, thereby facilitating their engagement in spiritual observances and cultural engagements synonymous with the holy month.

It is noteworthy that the prescribed working hours serve to ensure operational continuity across governmental bodies while respecting the religious observances and traditions upheld by employees during Ramadan. This directive underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment, accommodating the diverse needs and practices of its workforce.
Moreover, the implementation of standardized working hours during Ramadan aligns with broader initiatives aimed at promoting work-life balance and employee well-being within the public sector. By providing clarity regarding operational expectations during this period, the government seeks to enhance organizational efficiency while honoring religious customs and obligations observed by its employees.
Additionally, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has previously issued directives outlining official working hours for federal authorities’ employees during Ramadan. Such coordinated efforts at the federal and local levels underscore a cohesive approach towards ensuring uniformity and consistency in administrative practices across the UAE’s governmental entities during religiously significant periods like Ramadan.
