Housemaids looking to travel to the UAE will also be given work permits

The UAE has restarted issuing work permits to employees who have been hired abroad to work in government and semi-government departments and agencies.

Those looking to join the vital sectors such as health care, transport and sanitation in the country will also be given the work permit allowing them to travel to the Emirates.

The announcement was made by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority on Monday.

Housemaids looking to travel to the UAE will also be given employment permits.

Work permits of those living in the country were already being renewed.

A work permit is a document issued by the UAE immigration authorities that allows a foreigner to enter, stay and work in the country legally for a certain period of time.

The validity of such documents cannot be extended.

Work permits are usually issued for two months during which a sponsor must change the employee’s status to residence visa.

Authorities in the UAE started reissuing entry permits from September 24 but work permits were put on hold.

An entry permit allows tourists and visitors to enter the Emirates.

The UAE stopped giving visas in March to limit the spread of Covid-19.

Only those with diplomatic passport holders were allowed to enter the country.
