Urban landscape boost: Volunteers honored in Al-Baha region

JEDDAH: Prince Hussam bin Saud bin Abdul Aziz, governor of Al-Baha region, honored 400 volunteers and some volunteer teams on Thursday.

They participated with the Al-Baha region and its affiliated municipalities in the activities of Municipal Volunteer Week, coinciding with Volunteer Day 2020.

The mayor of Al-Baha region, Dr. Ali bin Mohammed Al-Sowat, said that the honor was in exchange for the contribution of volunteers in improving the urban landscape through drawings and wall paintings, reflecting the identity and heritage of the region, and by planting local trees and plants to increase green landscapes throughout the region.

Al-Sowat said that 1,200 seedlings were planted along streets and in parks in cooperation with public and private agencies represented by police, traffic and security forces in the region, as well as the Youth Council, the Noon Foundation for Arts and two volunteer teams, Ataa and Raghdan.

He said that the International and Saudi Volunteer Day 2020 was celebrated and the municipal volunteer week was launched with the participation of volunteer youth in the region.

Al-Sowat pointed to their contribution through drawing pictures of the leaders of the country on main street murals, and decorating many sites with patriotic phrases and heritage photos that reflected the identity and culture of the region. Many artists and calligraphers participated.

He said he valued the efforts of the people of the country, including volunteers, to serve the community and the nation, and work to achieve the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision to reach the goal of 1 million volunteers.

The ceremony was attended by the undersecretary of the governorate, Abdul Moneim bin Yassin Al-Shehri.
