DUBAI: More than 50,000 migrants left Oman in August, Oman’s National Daily Time reported, citing government data.

This new figure comes as countries have continued to implement nationalization programs, particularly as more Omanis have started to be given jobs in the country’s workforce.

According to the new census provided by the National Center for Statistics and Information, Oman had a population of 1,747,844 in August, with a decrease of 53,895 compared to the previous month.

In the same period more than 6,000 locals have been added to the country’s national population. Between August 2019 and 2020, from 4,527,934 to 4,480,333 – Oman has seen a general decline of 3.88 percent of the population due to the huge drop in the number of migrants.

All the governors in Oman reported a decline in population, but the country’s capital Muscat declined 6.2 percent, followed by a 5.6 percent decline by the Southern Governor of Doofer.
